Tulku Orgyen Phuntsok Rinpoche was born in the Hidden Land of Pemakod, a sacred place well known to Himalayan Buddhists. The spiritual power and history of Pemakod is similar to that of the land of Odiyana. Some traditional accounts even identify Pemakod’s Nirmanakaya holy place of Cita Puri as the location of Lake Dhanakosha, from which Guru Padmasambhava is said to have been born.
When Tulku Orgyen was one year old, H.H. Dudjom Rinpoche recognized him as the rebirth of a great master of Pemakod, Togden Kunzang Longdrol. As the regent of Padmasambhava (also called Orgyen Rinpoche, or Precious Master of Odiyana) Dudjom Rinpoche gave Togden’s young incarnation the name Orgyen P’huntsok (Excellence of Odiyana).
