WISDOM CENTER
OF SANTA CRUZ

Tibetan medicine is the natural medicine way—it’s holistic. Similar to Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine, it was developed in Tibet before Buddhism with the Bon tradition, our indigenous tradition. It is very ancient, I think it is one of the most ancient healing modalities. It has such a long history. This is what makes it very special.
Tibetan Medicine is a way of understanding the body and mind, of understanding the meaning of the relationship of the individual body to nature, and the relationships between planet, earth, and sky. Everyone has a different way of living, different personalities, different age, and different bodily energies. The herbs we have are high mountain herbs, which are very different.

The Wisdom Center is deeply honored to host Menpa Phuntsog Wangmo, known as Khewang in Tibetan, a distinguished figure in the realm of Tibetan Medicine. As International Director of the Shang Shung School of Tibetan Medicine, she has kindly offered to speak and provide consultations during her stay in Santa Cruz.
Since receiving her advanced degree from the Lhasa University School of Traditional Medicine, she has dedicated many years of work as a doctor of Tibetan Medicine in Eastern Tibet, collaborating with and directing the implementation of A.S.I.A., the non-profit and co-founding the American Tibetan Medical Association (ATMA), a national organization representing the Tibetan medical profession within the United States.
She is an exceptionally skilled diagnostician and prescribes according to both an individual’s health conditions, and their particular constitution.
